Answer

How much does SEIS advance assurance cost?

HMRC charges nothing to consider an advance assurance application, so the only cost is whoever prepares it. Mida OS charges a fixed £449 for SEIS, EIS or both in a single application; accountants typically charge £500 to £1,500 and law firms £1,000 to £3,000 or more. Post-round compliance with us is £50 per investor.

What the £449 includes

  • Eligibility review before anything is filed, with an honest answer if something needs fixing
  • Drafting the full application pack from your plan and numbers
  • Submission to HMRC's venture capital reliefs team
  • Handling HMRC's follow-up questions until a decision
  • Cover for SEIS, EIS or both in one application

Costs people forget

Advance assurance is not the end of the spend. After the round closes someone has to file the SEIS1 or EIS1 compliance statement and issue an SEIS3 or EIS3 certificate to every investor, which is where hourly billing tends to surprise founders. Ours is £50 per investor. Share issue paperwork, updated articles and Companies House filings sit outside advance assurance entirely.
